Classic stroopwafels.

Ingredients

12 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)2 cups
Butter125 g for dough, 50 g for syrup
Sugar6 tbsp
Instant dry yeast1½ tsp
Milk¼ cup, lukewarm
Egg1
Cinnamon powder1½ tsp
Salta pinch
Brown sugar¾ cup
Golden syrup (golden syrup or light corn syrup)⅓ cup

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Mix flour, 125 g soft butter, sugar, yeast, milk, egg, half the cinnamon and the salt into a smooth dough. Rest 45 minutes.
  2. 2Syrup: melt the brown sugar, golden syrup, 50 g butter and remaining cinnamon. Bubble for 2 minutes, then cool slightly.
  3. 3Roll walnut sized balls and press in a hot pizzelle or thin waffle iron for about 1 minute.
  4. 4While still hot, slice each waffle horizontally into two thin rounds with a sharp knife.
  5. 5Spread warm syrup on one half and press the other on top.
Serve it like this

Stack on a plate and serve with hot coffee or tea, one balanced on each cup to warm.
