Ingredients

10 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)4 cups
Instant dry yeast1 tbsp
Milk1¾ cups + 2 tbsp, lukewarm
Egg1
Sugar2 tbsp for batter, rest for dusting
Salt1 tsp
Raisins1 cup, soaked
Apple1, diced small
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)for deep frying

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Mix the flour, yeast, 2 tbsp sugar and salt. Beat in the egg and lukewarm milk to a thick, sticky batter.
  2. 2Cover and leave to rise until doubled.
  3. 3Fold in the drained raisins and diced apple.
  4. 4Scoop balls with two oiled spoons into oil at 180°C. Fry 6 to 7 minutes, turning.
  5. 5Drain and dust thickly with icing sugar.
Serve it like this

Pile in a big bowl lined with paper, dust with more icing sugar at the table and eat warm with your fingers.
