Ingredients

4 servings
Masoor dal (red lentils)⅔ cup, rinsed
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)2 tsp
Cumin seeds½ tsp
Onion1, chopped
Garlic3 cloves
Ginger1.5 cm
Tomato2, chopped
Carrot1, chopped
Turmeric (ground turmeric)¼ tsp
Cumin powder (ground cumin)½ tsp
Black pepper½ tsp
Water3¾ cups
Lemon juice1 tbsp
Saltto taste
Coriander leaves (cilantro)2 tbsp

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Heat oil in a cooker, crackle cumin, add onion, garlic and ginger until soft.
  2. 2Add tomato, carrot, dal, turmeric and water. Pressure cook 3 whistles and let the pressure release naturally.
  3. 3Blend smooth, return to heat, add cumin powder, pepper and salt and simmer 3 minutes.
  4. 4Finish with lemon and coriander.
Serve it like this

Ladle into warm bowls and serve hot, with a few coriander leaves on top.
