Ingredients

6 servings
Minced mutton (goat mince, ground goat)700 g
Onion1 large, grated and squeezed
Flat leaf parsleybig handful, finely chopped
Baharat2 tsp
Saltto taste
Black pepper½ tsp
Potato4, sliced 1 cm
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)¼ cup
Tomato3, sliced
Tomato puree⅔ cup
Water1¼ cups
Garlic3 cloves, crushed

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Knead mince with onion, parsley, baharat, salt and pepper until sticky. Press into an even layer in a tray, or shape into fingers.
  2. 2Toss potato slices with oil and salt and roast at 220°C until golden at the edges.
  3. 3Layer the potatoes and tomato slices over the kafta. Whisk tomato puree, water, garlic and salt and pour over.
  4. 4Cover and bake at 190°C, then uncover to brown the top.
Serve it like this

Serve from the tray with vermicelli rice or bread, a green salad and pickles.
