Milk8 cups full cream
Sugar2 cups
Baking soda (bicarb soda, bicarbonate of soda)¼ tsp
Vanilla essence (vanilla flavouring, imitation vanilla extract)1 tsp

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Bring milk and sugar to a simmer in a heavy wide pan, stirring.
  2. 2Stir in baking soda.
  3. 3Simmer on low for 2 hours, stirring often and more as it thickens.
  4. 4When it coats a spoon thickly, add vanilla and cool in a jar.
Serve it like this

Spoon into a jar and serve on toast, with crêpes, between alfajores or simply by the spoonful.
