Ingredients

3 servings
Steel cut oats (pinhead oatmeal)⅔ cup
Water2½ cups
Milk¾ cup
Apple1, diced
Cinnamon powder¾ tsp
Butter2 tsp
Salta pinch
Maple syrup2 tbsp, or honey
Walnuts¼ cup, toasted

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Toast the oats in butter in a heavy pan for 2 minutes.
  2. 2Pour in boiling water and salt, stir and simmer uncovered 20 minutes, stirring now and then.
  3. 3Add the milk, apple and cinnamon and simmer 5 to 8 minutes more.
  4. 4Serve topped with maple syrup and toasted walnuts.
Serve it like this

Ladle into deep bowls, top with apple, a swirl of syrup and walnuts. A splash of cold milk on the side.
