Ingredients

6 servings
Minced mutton (goat mince, ground goat)600 g lamb or mutton mince
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)1 tbsp
Onion1 large, diced
Carrot2, diced
Celery1 stick, diced
Garlic2 cloves
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1 tbsp
Tomato puree2 tbsp
Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp
Water1¼ cups stock
Rosemary1 sprig, chopped, plus thyme
Green peas⅔ cup
Saltto taste
Black pepper½ tsp
Potato1 kg, for mash
Butter3½ tbsp
Milk½ cup
Cheddar cheese½ cup, grated, optional

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Brown the mince in oil, then add onion, carrot and celery and cook until soft. Add garlic.
  2. 2Stir in flour and tomato puree, then Worcestershire, stock and herbs. Simmer 25 minutes, add peas and season.
  3. 3Boil potatoes, mash with butter, milk and salt.
  4. 4Spread filling in a dish, top with mash, rough up with a fork and scatter cheese.
  5. 5Bake at 200 C for 25 to 30 minutes.
Serve it like this
