Classic Scottish oatcakes.

Ingredients

8 servings
Rolled oats (porridge oats)medium oatmeal or blitzed rolled oats
Butter2 tbsp, melted
Baking soda (bicarb soda, bicarbonate of soda)¼ tsp
Salt½ tsp
Waterhot

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Mix the oatmeal, salt and baking soda. Add the melted butter and hot water and mix to a firm dough.
  2. 2Roll 4 mm thick on a surface dusted with oatmeal.
  3. 3Cut into rounds, or into a circle cut in wedges (farls).
  4. 4Bake at 180°C for 20 to 25 minutes.
  5. 5Cool on a rack until crisp.
Serve it like this
