Classic pease pudding.

Ingredients

6 servings
Yellow split peas2 cups, soaked overnight
Gammon1 small ham hock or gammon joint
Onion1
Carrot1
Bay leaf (indian bay leaf)1
Butter1½ tbsp
Black pepper½ tsp
White breadstottie cake or crusty bread, to serve

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Simmer the ham with onion, carrot and bay for 1 1/2 hours.
  2. 2Add the soaked peas to the ham stock and simmer until very soft.
  3. 3Drain the peas and beat with butter and pepper until smooth.
  4. 4Slice the ham and serve with pease pudding in a stottie.
Serve it like this

Spread thickly in a split stottie with sliced ham, or serve as a side with ham and potatoes.
