Ingredients

4 servings
Fresh green tuvar (fresh pigeon peas)2½ cups green tuvar
Onion2, chopped
Tomato2, chopped
Garlic10 cloves
Ginger2.5 cm
Green chilli3
Red chilli powder (indian red chili powder)1 tbsp
Coriander powder (ground coriander)2 tsp
Garam masala1 tsp
Turmeric (ground turmeric)¼ tsp
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)3½ tbsp
Coriander leaves (cilantro)a handful
Water1¼ cups
Saltto taste

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Boil tuvar in salted water until soft but whole.
  2. 2Fry onion, garlic, ginger and chillies in oil until golden.
  3. 3Add tomato and powders; cook until oil separates.
  4. 4Add tuvar with some cooking liquid, simmer 10 minutes and finish with coriander.
Serve it like this

Serve hot in a bowl with buttered bread, bajra rotla and chopped onion and lemon.
