Ingredients

8 servings
Sauerkraut1 kg, plus whole pickled leaves; or blanched cabbage leaves
Cabbage1 small head, for leaves
Minced pork (pork mince, ground pork)700 g
Rice⅔ cup
Onion1 large, chopped
Egg1
Paprika2 tbsp sweet
Smoked sausage200 g, sliced
Bacon (streaky rashers, streaky bacon)100 g smoked
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)1½ tbsp
Tomato puree¾ cup
Sour creamto serve
Bay leaf (indian bay leaf)2
Saltto taste
Black pepperto taste

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Separate and soften the cabbage leaves; shave thick ribs.
  2. 2Fry onion in oil, take off heat and add paprika. Mix with pork, rice, egg, salt and pepper.
  3. 3Roll filling in leaves. Layer sauerkraut, rolls, sausage and bacon in a pot. Top with kraut, tomato and bay.
  4. 4Add water to just cover and simmer covered very gently.
  5. 5Serve with sour cream.
Serve it like this

Serve two rolls on a bed of kraut with a slice of sausage and a big spoon of sour cream, with fresh bread.
