Ingredients

4 servings
Sausages (snags, bangers)6 to 8 sausages
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)2 tbsp
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1¼ cups
Egg3
Milk1 cup
Salta pinch
Dried mixed herbs (italian seasoning)½ tsp thyme
Onion2, sliced, for gravy
Butter1½ tbsp
Water1¼ cups stock

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Whisk flour, eggs, milk, salt and thyme; rest 30 minutes.
  2. 2Brown sausages in oil in a roasting tin at 220 C for 10 minutes.
  3. 3Pour batter around sausages and bake 25 to 30 minutes without opening the door.
  4. 4Meanwhile cook onions in butter until brown, add a little flour from the bag and stock, and simmer to gravy.
Serve it like this

Cut into squares at the table, a sausage in each, and pour over onion gravy. Peas or greens on the side.
