Ingredients

6 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)2½ cups
Butter4 tbsp, cold
Egg1
Sugar2 tsp
Salt1 tsp
Water⅓ cup, cold
Queso fresco300 g firm white cheese (queso blanco)
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)for frying, about 7 tbsp absorbed

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Rub butter into flour, sugar and salt, add egg and water and knead into a smooth dough. Rest 20 minutes.
  2. 2Cut the cheese into sticks 1 cm thick and 7 cm long.
  3. 3Roll the dough very thin and cut into 1.5 cm strips. Wrap each stick in a spiral, overlapping, sealing both ends.
  4. 4Fry at 175°C for 3 to 4 minutes until golden.
Serve it like this

Pile on a platter with a bowl of salsa rosada or guasacaca for dipping, served hot.
