Ingredients

4 servings
Whole green moong (mung beans)¾ cup, soaked 4 hours
Water3½ cups
Onion1 medium, chopped
Tomato2, chopped
Ginger garlic paste2 tsp
Green chilli1, slit
Cumin seeds½ tsp
Turmeric (ground turmeric)¼ tsp
Red chilli powder (indian red chili powder)¾ tsp
Coriander powder (ground coriander)1 tsp
Garam masala¼ tsp
Ghee1 tbsp
Salt1 tsp
Coriander leaves (cilantro)1 tbsp

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Pressure cook soaked moong with water, turmeric and salt for 4 whistles. Let the pressure release naturally.
  2. 2Heat ghee, add cumin, onion and chilli. Cook till golden, then ginger garlic paste, tomato and powders.
  3. 3Add the cooked moong and simmer 5 minutes.
  4. 4Finish with garam masala and coriander.
Serve it like this

Serve hot in a deep bowl with a swirl of ghee or a few coriander leaves on top, and rice or rotis on the side.
