Pouding chômeur.

Ingredients

8 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1⅔ cups
Baking powder2 tsp
Sugar½ cup
Butter4 tbsp, soft
Milk⅔ cup
Egg1
Vanilla essence (vanilla flavouring, imitation vanilla extract)1 tsp
Salta pinch
Maple syrup1 cup
Fresh cream (thickened cream, heavy cream)¾ cup

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Heat the oven to 180°C. Bring the maple syrup and cream to a boil, then turn off.
  2. 2Beat butter and sugar, then the egg and vanilla. Fold in flour, baking powder and salt alternately with milk.
  3. 3Spread the batter in a buttered 20 x 20 cm dish and pour the hot syrup gently over.
  4. 4Bake 35 to 40 minutes until golden and the syrup bubbles around the edges.
  5. 5Rest 10 minutes and serve warm.
Serve it like this

Spoon warm into bowls with plenty of sauce from the bottom. A scoop of vanilla ice cream or splash of cold cream on top.
