Ingredients

4 servings
Fish500 g seer or kingfish, in steaks
Kudampuli3 pieces, soaked
Kashmiri chilli powder2 tbsp
Turmeric (ground turmeric)¼ tsp
Shallots6, sliced
Ginger2.5 cm, julienned
Garlic8 cloves, sliced
Green chilli2, slit
Fenugreek seeds¼ tsp
Coconut oil2 tbsp
Curry leaves2 sprigs
Water1¼ cups
Saltto taste

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Soak kudampuli in a little warm water for 10 minutes.
  2. 2In a clay pot, heat coconut oil, splutter fenugreek, add shallots, ginger, garlic, chillies and curry leaves and saute.
  3. 3Lower the heat, add chilli powder and turmeric made into a paste and fry until the oil turns red.
  4. 4Add water, kudampuli and salt; boil, then slide in the fish and simmer until the gravy thickens.
Serve it like this

Serve straight from the clay pot with boiled matta rice or kappa puzhukku.
