Ingredients

6 servings
Apple6 to 7, peeled and chunked
Sugar3 tbsp for apples, 2 tbsp for custard
Lemon juice2 tsp
Cinnamon powder1 tsp
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1¼ cups
Butter7 tbsp, cold
Brown sugar⅓ cup plus 1 tbsp
Rolled oats (porridge oats)½ cup
Milk1⅔ cups, for custard
Custard powder2½ tbsp

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Toss apples with sugar, lemon and cinnamon in a baking dish.
  2. 2Rub butter into flour, then stir in brown sugar and oats. Squeeze for clumps.
  3. 3Scatter over apples and bake at 190 C for 35 to 40 minutes.
  4. 4Make custard: mix powder with a little milk and sugar, add to hot milk and stir until thick.
Serve it like this

Spoon into bowls hot, with custard poured over generously. Ice cream for the rebels.
