Ingredients

8 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1¾ cups
Baking powder1 tsp
Sugar⅓ cup plus to dust
Butter7 tbsp, cold, plus for the tawa
Raisins½ cup currants or raisins
Whole spices½ tsp mixed spice
Egg1
Milk1½ tbsp
Salta pinch

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Rub butter into flour, baking powder, spice and salt. Stir in sugar and raisins.
  2. 2Add egg and milk to form a firm dough.
  3. 3Roll 5 mm thick and cut 6 cm rounds.
  4. 4Cook on a lightly buttered tawa on medium low, 3 minutes a side. Dust with sugar while warm.
Serve it like this

Serve warm, dusted with sugar, stacked on a plate, with butter or jam and tea.
