Quebec tarte au sucre.

Ingredients

10 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1½ cups for crust, 3 tbsp for filling
Butter7 tbsp, cold, for crust
Water3 tbsp iced water
Salta pinch
Brown sugar1¼ cups, packed
Fresh cream (thickened cream, heavy cream)1 cup
Egg1
Vanilla essence (vanilla flavouring, imitation vanilla extract)1 tsp
Maple syrup¼ cup, optional

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Rub butter into 1 1/2 cups flour and salt, add iced water and form a disc. Chill 30 minutes, then line a 23 cm pie dish.
  2. 2Whisk brown sugar with 3 tbsp flour, then whisk in cream, egg, vanilla and maple syrup until smooth.
  3. 3Pour into the shell and bake at 190°C for 10 minutes, then 175°C for 30 to 35 minutes.
  4. 4Cool completely before slicing.
Serve it like this

Serve thin slices at room temperature with lightly whipped cream to balance the sweetness.
