Ingredients

4 servings
Fish12 fresh sardines (mathi), gutted, scales on
Saltcoarse sea salt
Olive oil1½ tbsp
Lemon1, in wedges
Potato4 medium, boiled
Red bell pepper (red capsicum, red pepper)2, whole
Onion1 small, sliced
Vinegar2 tsp
White bread4 slices crusty bread

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Toss the sardines in coarse salt and rest 30 minutes.
  2. 2Char the peppers on a flame or grill until black, cover, then peel and slice. Dress with oil, vinegar and onion.
  3. 3Grill the sardines over high heat, a few minutes each side.
  4. 4Serve on bread with boiled potatoes, the pepper salad and lemon.
