Rava (semolina)1 cup
Ghee2 tbsp
Mustard seeds½ tsp
Urad dal (split black gram)1 tsp
Chana dal (split chickpeas)1 tsp
Curry leaves1 sprig
Ginger1 tsp, grated
Onion1 small, chopped
Tomato1, chopped
Carrot1 small, diced
Green peas⅓ cup
Green beans6, chopped
Turmeric (ground turmeric)a pinch
Salt1 tsp
Water3 cups, hot
Lemon juice1 tsp
Coriander leaves (cilantro)1 tbsp, choppedMethod
- 1Dry roast the rava on medium low until it smells toasty, then keep aside.
- 2Heat the ghee, add mustard, urad and chana dal and curry leaves, then ginger and onion. Cook 2 minutes.
- 3Add tomato, carrot, peas, beans, turmeric and salt and cook covered for 4 minutes.
- 4Pour in the hot water, bring to a boil, then add the rava in a thin stream while stirring.
- 5Cover and cook on low for 3 minutes. Finish with lemon and coriander.
Serve it like thisSpoon into a steel tiffin while hot and close the lid. At home, serve with coconut chutney and a drizzle of ghee.
