Minced beef (beef mince, beef or buff keema)250 g
Minced pork (pork mince, ground pork)250 g
Breadcrumbs⅓ cup
Milk½ cup
Onion1 small, finely grated
Egg1
Allspice¼ tsp, ground
White pepper¼ tsp
Salt1 tsp
Butter2 tbsp
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)2 tbsp
Beef stock (beef broth)1⅔ cups
Fresh cream (thickened cream, heavy cream)½ cup
Soy sauce1 tsp
Potato4 medium, boiled and mashed with a knob of butter
Lingonberry jam4 tbsp, to serveMethod
- 1Stir the breadcrumbs into the milk and leave for 5 minutes.
- 2Add both meats, grated onion, egg, allspice, pepper and salt. Mix with your hands just until even, then roll walnut sized balls with wet palms.
- 3Fry the meatballs in butter over medium heat in batches, shaking the pan so they roll.
- 4In the same pan, whisk the flour into the buttery drippings, then the stock, cream and soy sauce. Simmer and return the meatballs.
- 5Serve with mash, gravy and a spoon of lingonberry jam.
Serve it like thisPile meatballs and gravy beside buttery mash, add a spoon of lingonberry jam and some quick pickled cucumber. Serve piping hot.
