Classic kik alicha.

Ingredients

4 servings
Chana dal (split chickpeas)1 cup yellow split peas or chana dal, soaked 2 hours
Onion1 large, finely chopped
Garlic4 cloves, minced
Ginger2.5 cm, minced
Turmeric (ground turmeric)1 tsp
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)3 tbsp
Green chilli2, slit
Water3½ cups
Saltto taste

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Boil the split peas in water until soft enough to crush.
  2. 2Cook onions in the oil on low until soft and pale gold. Add garlic, ginger and turmeric.
  3. 3Add the cooked peas with some of their water and simmer, mashing a little.
  4. 4Add the green chillies and salt and simmer 2 minutes.
Serve it like this

Spoon a golden mound onto injera next to misir wat so the yellow and red sit side by side. Serve warm.
