Ingredients

8 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)4 cups
Butter⅓ cup, melted
Sugar⅓ cup
Milk¾ cup, warm
Instant dry yeast1½ tsp
Salt½ tsp
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)absorbed from frying

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Mix the warm milk, yeast and sugar, then add the butter, flour and salt to a soft dough. Rest 1 hour.
  2. 2Roll to 1 cm thick and cut into strips or diamonds; slit the centre of some and pull one end through to make twists.
  3. 3Fry in hot oil in batches until puffed and golden.
  4. 4Drain and cool. Store airtight.
Serve it like this

Pile in a bowl in the middle of the table with a pot of salty milk tea, butter and jam for spreading.
