Ingredients

4 servings
Raw banana (green plantain)2 large raw bananas
Besan (chickpea flour, gram flour)1 cup
Rice flour3 tbsp
Red chilli powder (indian red chili powder)1 tsp
Asafoetidaa pinch
Baking soda (bicarb soda, bicarbonate of soda)a pinch
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)for frying
Saltto taste

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Peel the raw bananas and slice lengthwise into thin strips. Keep in water.
  2. 2Make a smooth, thick batter of besan, rice flour, chilli powder, asafoetida, soda, salt and water.
  3. 3Heat the oil on medium. Test with a drop of batter.
  4. 4Dip, coat and fry a few at a time, turning once.
  5. 5Serve hot with coconut chutney.
Serve it like this

Drain on paper for a minute, pile onto a plate and serve hot with chutney on the side.
