Ingredients

4 servings
Beef400 g, thinly sliced
Onion2 large, sliced
Button mushroom200 g, sliced
Butter2 tbsp
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)3 tbsp
Tomato puree⅔ cup
Tomato ketchup (ketchup)3 tbsp
Worcestershire sauce2 tbsp
Beef stock (beef broth)1⅔ cups (a splash of red wine is common)
Sugar1 tsp
Saltto taste
Cooked rice4 plates
Flat leaf parsleyto garnish

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Melt the butter and fry the onion slowly until soft and golden.
  2. 2Add the beef and mushrooms and cook until the beef changes colour.
  3. 3Sprinkle in the flour and stir 1 minute.
  4. 4Add tomato puree, ketchup, Worcestershire, stock and sugar and simmer 15 minutes. Season.
  5. 5Serve over rice with parsley.
Serve it like this

Spoon rice on one side of a wide plate and ladle the sauce beside it, with a little parsley, like a Japanese curry rice.
