Ingredients

4 servings
Fish500 g kingfish or pomfret slices
Thick coconut milk¾ cup
Thin coconut milk1¼ cups
Onion1 medium, sliced
Garlic4 cloves
Ginger2.5 cm
Green chilli3, slit
Turmeric (ground turmeric)¾ tsp
Coriander seeds2 tsp
Cumin seeds1 tsp
Black pepper½ tsp
Vinegar1 tbsp
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)1½ tbsp
Saltto taste

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Rub fish with salt.
  2. 2Grind turmeric, coriander seeds, cumin, pepper, garlic and ginger with a little thin coconut milk.
  3. 3Heat oil, cook onion until soft, add the paste and green chillies and fry 2 minutes. Add thin coconut milk and simmer 5 minutes.
  4. 4Add the fish and simmer 5 minutes. Stir in thick coconut milk and vinegar and heat without boiling.
Serve it like this

Serve hot in a deep bowl with a swirl of ghee or a few coriander leaves on top, and rice or rotis on the side.
