Ingredients

4 servings
Rice¾ cup, soaked 4 hours
Chana dal (split chickpeas)⅓ cup, soaked 4 hours
Ginger2.5 cm
Green chilli2
Cumin seeds½ tsp
Saltto taste
Waterabout 1 cup
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)for the tawa

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Drain the soaked rice and chana dal and grind with ginger, chillies and water to a smooth, thick batter.
  2. 2Stir in cumin seeds and salt. Rest 15 minutes.
  3. 3Pour a ladle onto a greased hot tawa and spread into a thick round. Drizzle oil, cover and cook.
  4. 4Flip and cook 1 minute. Serve hot with chutney.
Serve it like this

Serve straight off the tawa, folded, with chutney and sambar in small bowls on the side.
