Anglo Indian ball curry.

Ingredients

Minced mutton (goat mince, ground goat)500 g keema
Onion2 large, half minced, half sliced
Ginger garlic paste1½ tbsp
Green chilli2, minced
Coriander leaves (cilantro)a handful
Mint leavesa handful
Garam masala¾ tsp
Fresh grated coconut3 tbsp
Turmeric (ground turmeric)¼ tsp
Kashmiri chilli powder2 tsp
Coriander powder (ground coriander)2½ tsp
Cumin powder (ground cumin)¾ tsp
Tomato2, chopped
Thick coconut milk1 cup
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)2 tbsp
Whole spices1 bay leaf, 4 cloves, cinnamon
Curry leaves1 sprig
Potato2, halved
Salt2 tsp
Water1½ cups

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Mix mince with minced onion, half the ginger garlic paste, chilli, herbs, garam masala, coconut and salt. Shape into 20 balls.
  2. 2Heat oil, fry whole spices, curry leaves and sliced onion till golden. Add remaining paste, tomato and powders. Cook till oil separates.
  3. 3Add water and potatoes and bring to a simmer. Gently slip in the balls, cover and cook on low 20 minutes without stirring.
  4. 4Add coconut milk and simmer 5 minutes.
Serve it like this

Serve hot in a deep bowl with a swirl of ghee or a few coriander leaves on top, and rice or rotis on the side.
