Ingredients

3 servings
Korean rice cakes400 g cylinder rice cakes
Beef150 g, thin strips
Soy sauce2 tbsp
Sugar2 tsp
Honey2 tsp
Garlic3 cloves, minced
Sesame oil1 tbsp
Black peppera pinch
Onion1 small, sliced
Carrot1 small, batons
Dried shiitake mushrooms3, soaked and sliced
Capsicum (green capsicum, green bell pepper)½, strips
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)2 tsp
Spring onion (green onion, scallion)3 stalks, cut
Sesame seeds2 tsp

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Soften rice cakes in hot water for 5 minutes and drain; toss with a little sesame oil and soy.
  2. 2Marinate beef with soy, sugar, garlic, pepper and the rest of the sesame oil for 10 minutes.
  3. 3Stir fry beef in oil until browned, then add onion, carrot and mushrooms.
  4. 4Add rice cakes, capsicum, honey and a splash of water and toss 3 minutes.
  5. 5Finish with spring onion and seeds.
Serve it like this

Serve on a wide plate with sesame seeds and spring onion, warm, alongside soup or as part of a spread.
